Weston History Bites: Charles (Carl) Arvid Johnson

As we head towards Memorial Day weekend, we want to share a poignant story with you this week about a young Weston soldier who fought in World War I. His name was Charles (Carl) Arvid Johnson, but usually went by Arvid. He was born and grew up at 19 Covenant Road in Weston.

In the late 1970s, the owners of the home, Charlie & Jean Howes, discovered letters in the house belonging to the young soldier. In 1987 Jean Howes wrote about their discovery and the history of Arvid's life as a young man and soldier. Her article was published in the Weston Forum. The Weston Historical Society also published her article in the 2001 No. 2 issue of the Chronicle as a two part series.
