Join fine artist and Weston resident, Cindy Wagner, for a pencil drawing workshop inspired by the black and white drawings, portraits and figure illustrations created by renowned Weston artist Charles Daugherty on display in the Weston History & Culture Center’s exhibit, “Weston Illustrated: Penned, Painted and Sculpted”.

The workshop takes place on Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 2pm – 5pm at the Weston History & Culture Center, 104 Weston Road in Weston, CT. Open to all ability levels.
In the event of inclement weather, the workshop snow date is Sunday, February 25, 2024.

Starting with a black and white photo, this workshop will lead students through the steps of creating an accurate drawing. The class will begin with a brief demonstration by Cindy Wagner on how to begin a drawing. She will review methods to measure carefully and build skills to evaluate the reference photo. The workshop will improve how you see when drawing and explore the use of the pencil as a medium, the different marks and values of hard and soft pencils.

Students may bring their own 8X10 black and white photo of a face or figure to draw, or they may choose to draw an 8X10 black and white print from the exhibit, “Weston Illustrated”. Pencils, paper and erasers will be supplied and are included in the price. If you have a drawing board, please bring it along. If you don’t have one, a clipboard will be provided. Students are encouraged to explore the exhibit, “Weston Illustrated: Penned, Painted and Sculpted” before or at the end of the workshop to learn more about Weston’s connection to the art world of the early 20th century.
