Emmanuel Episcopal Church came about as a result of a rift in the membership of the Episcopal Church at Aspetuck corners (Easton). One faction wanted a new meeting house built far to the east, while another wanted it built at Lyons Plains. Finally, an impatient Hanford Nichols, and his neighbor Walter Treadwell, ended the matter by commissioning their own meeting house to be built on donated land near their homes on Lyons Plains Road. |
