First Selectman Series: Woody Bliss

Woody Bliss spent his career at IBM, starting out as an applied science rep to companies like Bell Aerospace. A transfer to White Plains in 1974 brought him to Weston, where he quickly became an active volunteer, from coaching Little League to Kiwanis to the Historical Society. His first elected position was to the Board of Finance, then the Board of Selectmen, and, in 2001, First Selectman, serving four terms. He cites among his accomplishments overseeing the $80 million school project and protecting some 1,800 acres of open space. The Police Commission named him Citizen of the Year in 2013 and Bliss continues his public service as a treasurer and volunteer for a number of local organizations.
