First Selectman Series: George C. Guidera

George Guidera was Weston’s First Selectman from 1987 – 1999, a record six terms. He also served in both houses of the State Legislature. Proud of being a “home town lawyer,” his interest in the law and politics began over the dinner table when he was ten: two of his uncles were also First Selectmen. During his tenure he was a strong advocate for the preservation of open space, maintaining two-acre zoning, and fostering a cooperative atmosphere as well as a strong spirit of voluntarism. He was also a prime mover in the capital campaign that led to the building of the Historical Society’s modern museum and archive.
