"Historic Wedding Dresses - The Brides of Weston"
Saturday, February 22, 2014 2-5 pm
A display of vintage wedding gowns plus a “red carpet” show of contemporary wedding dresses will highlight this unique“Brides of Weston” exhibition. Co-sponsored by the Weston Women’s League, the event also includes a reception featuringold fashioned wedding punch, wine, hors d’oeuvres, and mini wedding cakes.
A gallery of recent photographs of brides well known in Weston are featured as well, with a prize awarded to the savvy museum-goer who can best match the photos with the names of those wearing them.
Dressed for the occasion will be twelve mannequins with period wedding gowns that reflect styles dating as far back as 1812 and handed down by prominent Weston families. Among them are a dress from 1935 made of ecru satin with a long jacket top, long sleeves, and a six-foot train. Also, a brocade and satin dress with a jacket with small pearls and a skirt of brocaded ecru with a long train and puffed bustle. Accoutrements such as men's wedding vests, some ladies wedding shoes, a replica of an 1812 Regency style with beaded bodice, a lace bonnet, and items from a hope chest will also be on display.
Weston Women’s League members Linda Predovsky, Daniela Ackley, Kim Burke, and Catherine Revzon will be modeling more recent fashions, including Catherine’s traditional ChineseCheongsam.
This will be a fund raiser for the Historical Society, with general admission $25 per person and $5 for children 12 and under. Business supporters of the event so far include Eileen Fisher, Dirt Floral, Bon Soiree caterers, Georgetown Cake Shoppe, Jim Jamieson Architects, and Peter’s Spirit Shop.
